Marshmallow Pie the Cat Superstar

by Clara Vulliamy

reviewed by Mia Macrossan

Any cat lover will adore this story about Marshmallow Pie, a big fluffy independent cat who is now living in a small flat with his new human, a young girl called Amelia Lime.

Pie is a very posh cat with a very long name and he thinks a lot of himself. He loves the easy life, sunning himself on the balcony, eating his favourite shrimp crunchies and being fabulous and superior. His biggest thrill is annoying Buster the dog downstairs.

Then Amelia has the idea of auditioning him at the Ace Animal Acting Academy as there are wonderful opportunities in TV, film and theatre. Pie is not the most co-operative of cats until he sees that Buster has got a job there. So Pie tries again and the rest is history as they say.

This delightfully silly story is told from the cat’s point of view and it is very funny, but I suppose you have to know and love cats. The illustrations plentiful throughout the books in black and white line are a big plus, expressive and charming. You get a strong sense of what Amelia and Pie are really like.

There are two stories available now: Marshmallow Pie the Cat Superstar and Marshmallow Pie the Cat Superstar on TV. Very easy and attractive reading for ages 6+, maybe not for dog lovers, but who knows, they might be converted by Pie’s powerful personality!
